Earlier this year, I wrote to you about Georgia's U.S. Senator Kelly Loeffler. Senator Loeffler, as the COVID-19 pandemic took hold, appeared to use her insider position of privilege to sell off significant amounts of stock.
While the Trump administration downplayed the pandemic, they looked to cash in. At best it's morally reprehensible - at worst, it's criminal.
That's why, at that time, I urged your support for her opponent, Reverend Raphael Warnock. Because he would be a voice for the everyday people of this country. And it's why, as the election closes in, it's critical that we get him over the finish line with grassroots support.
This is going to be one of the closest races in the country, one of those races that keeps people up all of election night.
First, a reminder about the important details: Raphael is a pastor who has long been an advocate of expanding health care coverage and ensuring that Americans from Georgia to Oregon can make a living wage. This is going to be especially critical given Republicans repeated efforts to take away health care from the sick and vulnerable.
But here's the bottom line: he understands that American lives are not expendable. He understands that in times of global crisis, the top priority shouldn't be protecting stock market prices and corporate profits.
And the people of Georgia? They're responding. The latest polls have Raphael Warnock ahead.
But this is where things get tricky. Because we know all too well to not celebrate too early. Instead, we must redouble our efforts and not stop fighting until this election is done.
That's why I'm coming to you with 14 days to go, because we can't let up. And a grassroots donation of $3 can make the difference between a win and a loss right here.
It's the margin of whether or not we can take back the Senate, and it's down to us.
Time to get to work.
