Hello team,
As many of you know, we've started a coalition with Sunrise, United We Dream, and Dream Defenders. We are young people who are leading a movement. Separately, we are fighting to end gun violence, to stop deportations, to end incarcerations and murders of Black and brown people, and to stop climate change. They may seem like disparate goals, but we really have one task: to bring an end to a society that cares more for profits than people.
Over the past few months, we've seen President Trump make many remarks alluding to the fact that he will question the results of our election and possibly not leave office. This type of coup puts all of our core missions in jeopardy and we cannot allow it. If Trump tries to steal the election, we need to be ready to lead a mass strike to make sure every vote is counted. We make this country run and if we all refuse to go to work or school, there’s no way for Trump to govern.
If the Black Lives Matters movement has taught us anything, it's that mass noncooperation can extend for days, weeks, and even months. I don't mean to alarm anyone, but we should be ready to build a movement that gets out of our hands. Even if every member of our organizations decided to strike, it wouldn't be enough.
Things are moving quickly, and it's important that we do as well. I'm calling for a national call for state directors and chapter leads to discuss and strategize around a national plan for our organization. There are a series of mass training that the coalition will host so that way anyone and everyone can have the knowledge needed to organize in their own community.
It will be at 7 PM EST on Thursday. Feel free to invite any state-board, chapter leaders.
