Betsy DeVos just repealed a rule that was protecting millions of students from being preyed upon by dishonest for-profit colleges and universities.
The gainful employment rule strips federal funding from career and certificate programs that promise to provide students with career skills but leave them unequipped for the job market.
These predatory schools rake in profits while sticking millions of students -- many from low-income backgrounds and first-generation families who have never been to college -- with worthless degrees and mountains of student loan debt.
This rule has helped shut down more than 2,000 failing for-profit and career programs -- But Betsy DeVos is trying to reverse course and allow them to continue preying on the most vulnerable among us.
Stand up to Betsy DeVos: Protect our students from predatory schools →
Students work hard to prepare for college, and parents scrimp and save to provide for their children’s education. Our families deserve better than to have their hard-earned savings directed into investors’ pockets rather than their child’s education.
This isn’t the first time Betsy DeVos has failed to put students first. She’s also failed to protect LGBTQ students from discriminatory policies and college students from predatory lenders.
Add your name if you agree: We should be increasing protections for our students, not repealing them →
Thank you,
Team Whitmer
