A poll observer will stand outside high-density polling places to monitor the election site. You will take note of whether there are lines, whether voters are turned away for any reason, and whether there’s any electioneering or intimidation happening there. If you volunteer to be a poll observer, you will be extensively trained ahead of time and provided PPE, snacks and water the day(s) you volunteer. Poll observers are needed Oct. 31 through Election Day. Volunteer at bit.ly/pollobserver.
We will have poll watchers at high density precincts during early vote AND on Election Day. Early vote varies by county, but we will likely have most poll watchers work the weekend before Election Day, which is when most early voters should be expected to show up. Shifts will vary in length, with the shortest being 4 hours.
State Center Community College District Trustee Area 2
Nasreen Johnson is a communications strategist for the ACLU of Northern California. Johnson says that it is her personal mission “to be an advocate for and defend those who are vulnerable.” She does this through her volunteer work, her professional work and how she parents her children. “Having a strong community college system is critical, particularly in a community like ours where we have high poverty.”
State Center Community College District Trustee Area 3
Dary Rezvani is an accountant and small business owner. He ran unsuccessfully last March in Congressional District 22. Rezvani’s stance on issues is progressive, and his knowledge and experience will make him a fine trustee, especially regarding issues with career and technical education.
State Center Community College District Trustee Area 7
Abena Cruise is community outreach director for Table Mountain Casino and currently serves on the recently formed Fresno Commission on Police Reform. In a recent interview with GV Wire, Cruise stated that she represents the cultural diversity of Trustee Area 7 and that it is time for the board to exemplify that diversity with “progressive and new innovative ideas.”
Calwa Recreation and Park District Director
Laura Garcia is running for this position because she feels children and families in southeast Fresno deserve better. Garcia says that the community deserves accountability and transparency and that her neighbors deserve to be involved every step of the way. Garcia wants to ensure all Calwa’s children and families can enjoy Calwa Park as she once did as a child.
Sanger Unified School District Trustee Area 1
Sebastian Ardemagni has served as a consultant for United Way and the Dolores Huerta Foundation. He feels that as a Sanger resident who left home and returned with a wealth of education/experience, he can inject a unique and informed perspective to better his community and promote democratic ideals toward the success of Sanger Unified students.
Sanger Unified School District Trustee Area 4
Vao Pa Her is a karate instructor and youth mentor who served in the U.S.Navy from 2001 to 2005 and in the California Air National Guard from 2007 to 2015. If elected, he promises to work on the issue of “lack of support for teachers.” He wants to work with parents and teachers to ensure that “the administration is not top heavy.”
Selma Unified School District Trustee Area 2
Jaspreet Nagra is a recent graduate of UCLA. She is motivated to implement what she has learned to make a positive difference in the community that raised her. Nagra is concerned by what she says is the “lack of transparency” in the decision of the Selma School Board to stop funding the Doctors Academy program in Selma schools, which she feels is essential for students in a rural area such as Selma.
Mendota Unified School District
Kevin G. Arias-Romero, as a candidate, has made it a promise to provide more resources and support to students, staff and administration especially in these tiring times of COVID-19. In his area, internet connectivity for students is an urgent problem, as well as ensuring that students have the emotional and administrative support they need, especially those with special needs.

California Secretary of State Alex Padila has received reports of possible unauthorized ballot drop boxes in Fresno County. These reports show unsanctioned receptacles labeled as “official ballot drop off box,” which is an illegal misrepresentation.
The Fresno County Repubican party has posted a list of “secure” ballot drop off sites, none of which are the real county ballot boxes. The California Republican party claims this is legal vote harvesting, citing a law that allows voters to designate a person to carry their ballot to an official voting site, however, these efforts do not clear that legal bar as there is no “designated person.”
We encourage all voters to be cautious. When you or someone you know is ready to return their ballot to an official drop off box, make sure to check the official list of locations at [link removed].

Constituents in Devin Nunes district for the U.S. House of Representatives are again experiencing what it is like to have a representative awash with millions of dollars from out-of-state Republican donors who even before Covid always wanted to be distanced from any constituents who do not attend a fundraiser.
For the 2020 campaign, Nunes has so far received more than $20 million in campaign contributions. Back in 2016, a glossy magazine detailing his ranting conspiracy theories about the Fresno Bee went out to every household in his district, and this time people are being shipped copies of his 90-page book The Countdown to Socialism.
In this new screed, Nunes accuses Democrats of using journalism and reporting to make socialism look appealing. All the top universities in the world, along with every newspaper and media corporation save for Fox, are tarnishing the image of conservatism with their depictions of the world.
The irony of Nunes listing Donald Trump’s business school alma mater, the University of Pennsylvania, as one of the leading forces inculcating the world with disinformation is lost on the representative.
The cost of purchasing and shipping out thousands of these books must be tremendous, yet oddly there is no mention of it in the campaign finance report Nunes just published. There is good reason to ask questions here, as candidates are not allowed to personally profit from campaign expenditures. Yet, on the surface it seems the campaign has just purchased thousands of copies of the Nunes book to mail to people who have shown no sign of supporting him. If you live in his district, you might see the evidence yourself soon.
