Hello SPP Community!
As we prepare for our GOTV and PPE day, we want to bring history and context to this work. In 2017 the Seattle People’s Party founding members came together to create a party that would center Black, Indigenous, and People of Color communities in the electoral process. We knew that what happened in the 2016 presidential elections would impact BIPOC communities the hardest. We knew that there has never been an electoral party that truly centered the needs of our communities. We also knew that our communities held the solutions and creating a vehicle such as the Seattle People’s Party, was one tool for building the resources and supports our communities need.
Our communities are strong and continue to work towards liberation. Already we see the power in mutual aid models which are an adaptation of community led care that BIPOC communities have always relied on as resistance to white supremacist institutions. We have our second Seattle People’s Party candidate Sherae Lascelles who has built their platform on mutual aid and harm reduction. We have the tools we need.
Join us on Sunday the 25th from 1:00pm-4:00pm, for a Get Out The Vote Ballot Party and PPE Distribution day. We will be providing voter information, PPE, and cold weather harm reduction kits. This will be a day for us to support our communities and make sure people turn in their ballots.
We will be gathering at the Green Lake Park ballot box (in between the playground and pool) where you can drop off your ballot, pick up PPE, or help distribute PPE and cold weather harm reduction kits.
Sign up to volunteer here. We need volunteers, canopies, and portable tables!
