In a recent NYT Op-Ed, former national security advisor Susan Rice put into words how we’re all feeling: “it’s only October, and 2020 feels like the longest, most brutal year in memory.”

A pandemic that has killed more than 220,000 Americans and left millions without jobs. Wildfires that have burned more than 7.5 million acres of the West Coast. The biggest civil rights movement in history that’s been met with tear gas, armed forces, and kidnapping by the federal government.

With just two weeks until Election Day, we at Progressive Majority are here to remind you: Trump is to blame for the utter brutality that is being an American in 2020.

Instead of listening to experts, Trump ignored science at every turn and let the pandemic ravage America when other countries were getting the situation under control. Instead of acknowledging climate change as a real and pressing issue that needs to be addressed in order to save our planet, he dismissed the idea that it played any part in the West Coast wildfires, insisting it was “more of a management situation.” And instead of listening to the millions of Americans who have been protesting every day for nearly five months in the wake of George Floyd’s death at the hands of the police, Trump sent militarised federal agents to Portland to kidnap protestors from the streets and throw them into unmarked vehicles.

Right now, Biden and Harris are leading in the national polls by a wide margin. We can have hope that next year won’t be as hellish as this one. But polls aren’t everything -- if Democrats sit out of this election thinking that their voices don’t matter, we WILL have a repeat of 2016, and we can kiss any hope of a brighter future goodbye. Progressive Majority is fighting as hard as we can to make sure we kick Trump out of the White House once and for all -- but we’re running low on the funds we need to do so. As of right now, we’re $1,792 short of our grassroots fundraising goal that’ll give us the final push we need to take back the White House and the Senate and expand our reach in the House.
