John,
You might be tired of hearing about Trump administration misconduct at this point. Believe me, all of us at CREW are too. But we can’t let them exhaust us with their abuses of power, legal violations, corruption, and attacks on our democracy.
We have to stay focused on fighting back against their wrongdoing. And today, we’re laser-focused on one of the most egregious and appalling perpetrators of Trump administration abuses: Attorney General Bill Barr.
Over and over, Barr has improperly used his position—and the Justice Department as a whole—to defend Trump and boost his political prospects.
We called for Barr’s impeachment over the summer, but in the months since, he’s continued to demonstrate exactly why he’s unfit to serve as head of the DOJ—and why he’s so dangerous to our democracy.
Just last week, we filed a Hatch Act complaint against Barr for his promotion of President Trump’s re-election during an interview in his official capacity. Trump administration appointees have made violating the Hatch Act a regular occurrence, but the nation’s top law enforcement official should know better. This is really a new low.

We recently released a report, along with the Center for Ethics and the Rule of Law at the University of Pennsylvania, outlining Barr’s egregious misconduct over the past several years. From his misleading summary of the Mueller report, to his authorization of a counter-investigation into the origins of the Russia investigation, to his interference in the sentencing of Trump associates, to his involvement in federal agents tear gassing peaceful protestors in Lafayette Square in June—Barr’s actions are outrageous and threaten our democracy. Some of these actions could violate the law, and his recent steps to politicize investigations and to open the possibility of investigations leading to news developments ahead of the election could be particularly dangerous to the continued viability of democracy. Barr is unfit to serve, and Congress should act swiftly to hold him accountable for his appalling misconduct by impeaching him.

If you’re as outraged as we are by Barr’s actions, make sure you’ve signed our petition calling for Congress to impeach Barr. When we reach 75,000 signers, we’ll deliver it to Congress—sign on here, or share on Facebook, Twitter, or by forwarding this email.
Thank you,
