John,

Elsie Arntzen still doesn't seem to understand her job.

Yesterday I called on her to make our public schools whole again after she followed Betsy DeVos' illegal and discriminatory guidance to send a larger portion of coronavirus relief services to for-profit schools.

"Democratic candidate for Superintendent of Public Instruction Melissa Romano criticized Monday incumbent Superintendent Elsie Arntzen for her allocation of federal coronavirus relief funding, saying Arntzen "illegally diverted nearly $1 million in public resources to private and for-profit schools" — while Arntzen countered her office followed all federal guidelines in doling out the funds.

"'Montana's public schools are out $800,000 during the most challenging education environment in recent history because Elsie Arntzen did not plan ahead,' Romano said during a press conference in Missoula on Monday."

It's simple: public means public.

Elsie has shown her true colors for the last time. Even during a global health crisis, she couldn't bring herself to stand up for public schools. Montanans deserve a leader at the Office of Public Instruction who will advocate for our public schools and push back on the federal government when necessary.

With your help, I will be the leader our school communities deserve. Will you help us cross the finish line and support our race today?

Thank you for your help - now let's win this thing.
