As a long-time political activist, I’ve been through a lot of election cycles (more than I’d like to share here!).

And I’ve seen a lot of field programs.  

But last week, during Save the Children Action Network’s (SCAN) Get out the Vote for Kids Week of Action, I was floored.  

Our determined SCAN volunteers and student activists organized dozens of text banks and postcard writing parties – all virtually! They asked people who don’t regularly vote to make a plan to do so. 

So far, our volunteers have sent more than 120,000 text messages and mailed close to 6,000 hand-written postcards to our supporters around the country. They’ve shared information about voting with their friends and family, too.

One of our volunteers in South Carolina particularly inspired me. Citlaly is a college freshman and the first person in her family to attend college in the United States. She sent 225 handwritten postcards and 4,795 text messages to voters reminding them to vote in this critical election. She even wrote a letter to the editor of a major state newspaper about why - as a child of immigrants - she found it so important to vote. All of this while enrolled in college and running her own house painting business!

We’re going strong but we can’t let up!
