Friend,
If you missed it, there has been a lot of talk about democracy lately. That it is “on the ballot,” or as one Senator tweeted, that "Democracy isn’t the objective.”

Protecting our democracy is key to our mission of promoting the full participation of Arab Americans in civic and political life, so we have something to say and we hope you do too.

Over the last several years we have seen our democracy be tried and tested. Our system of checks and balances fails when the executive, legislative, and judicial branches of government fail to act independently of each other. When elected officials call for militias to monitor polling locations, we know we have a long way to go . But this isn’t entirely new.

The right to vote has long been seen as a threat to those who seek to oppress diverse communities. Indeed, the full participation of all of our citizenry has been a fight led by Black men and women for generations. We stand on their shoulders, and we fight alongside them.

Our democracy will remain broken until we all take on the task of fixing it. And while we are working on long term fixes, we are also doing everything we can to protect YOUR right to vote, right now.

From recruiting Arabic speaking poll workers, to operating a bilingual Arabic/English election protection hotline (844-Yalla-US), to monitoring election disinformation on social media, to hosting know your rights trainings for community members on what to do if your right to vote is challenged or denied – we are covering all of our bases, and we CANNOT do it without your help.

Today we ask that you join us and donate your time [[link removed]] or make a contribution [[link removed]] to keep the fight to protect our democracy going strong.
