A brand new episode—Beyond Marriage: The Fight for LGBTQ Rights—is available now on Apple Podcasts, Spotify and MsMagazine.com.
The use of religious liberty to justify discrimination against LGBTQ people is nothing new—and marriage is far from the only issue on the line. The Trump administration has worked to discriminate against gay parents in foster care and adoption, take away vital healthcare under the ACA, and prevent transgender people from serving in the military, among many other attacks. And it’s not limited to the federal government, either: This year we have seen clear, coordinated efforts at the state level to legalize discrimination. What’s at stake for members of the LGBTQ community in the coming elections?
Dr. Goodwin is joined by Jessica Clarke, professor of law, FedEx research professor and co-director of the George Barrett Social Justice Program at Vanderbilt University Law School; T. Mychael Rambo, a regional Emmy Award winning actor, vocalist, arts educator and community organizer; and Chase Strangio, deputy director for transgender justice with the ACLU’s LGBT & HIV Project and a nationally recognized expert on transgender rights.
