Across the world, the ever-growing divestment movement is pulling investments out of climate-wrecking companies.

Dear John

Our planet is warmer now than at any point in the past 1,000 years, and heating fast – mainly because of the huge amount of coal, oil and gas burnt since the industrial revolution. Fires are rampaging through California. The Amazon is ablaze. And Greenland’s ice sheets are melting faster than at any time in the past 12,000 years.

But there is still hope. Across the world, the ever-growing divestment movement is pulling investments out of climate-wrecking companies and demanding institutions stop pumping money into polluting industries.

Some of you are already active in the divestment movement – and doing incredible work to tackle the climate emergency. But if you’ve never heard of divestment before, there’s a really simple way to get involved – switching to an ethical current account with our partners Triodos Bank UK.

Unlike many banks, Triodos don’t fund the fossil fuel industry. And if you’re new to Triodos and open a current account, they’ll donate £40 to power our campaigns once your balance reaches £100. Eligibility, terms and conditions and a £3 monthly fee apply.
I'LL SWITCH TO TRIODOS ([link removed])
UK banks have invested well over £150 billion in polluting fossil fuels since the Paris climate agreement was signed in 2016. That means many of us are funding the climate crisis without even realising it.

Triodos are fully transparent about how they use their customers’ money, and only invest in projects that are a force for good. Ethical Consumer magazine recently re-confirmed them as the best buy in the UK, for this reason and much more. So if you open an account you’ll know where your money is going.

If you already have a Triodos account, then their new R ([link removed]) efer a Friend scheme ([link removed]) is a great way to have an even bigger impact. A friend can receive a £60 gift voucher when they are recommended by you to open a Triodos Personal Current Account, and Friends of the Earth can receive a £25 donation on your behalf.

But if you haven’t switched yet and you’re interested in ethical banking, do take a closer look at what Triodos have to offer.
I'D LIKE TO FIND OUT MORE ([link removed])
