Before I ever ran for office, I was a political organizer and activist fighting for environmental, racial, and social justice.

For me, political organizing has always been local. It’s about working with my community to stop environmental racism. It’s about fighting back against an unjust status quo that marginalizes my neighbors and myself. It’s about joining together to make change happen.

In order to build the power we need to stand up to the billionaire bullies who poison our air and water and keep us from earning fair wages and benefits, we must train and elect a new generation of leaders. That’s why my team and I created the Rooted in Community Leadership PAC.

Already this year we’ve provided grassroots trainings and mentorship to young candidates and activists, and those becoming involved in politics for the first time.

Through the Rooted in Community Leadership PAC, we’re supporting progressive candidates―especially women of color―who share our values and determination to build a better future for BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color) communities. We understand that field organizing requires helping change people's lives for the better today.

We are done waiting. From local to national campaigns, we are going to demand that people like us are at the table. Congress and city council can’t just look more like America; they also have to speak and listen differently. Our lived experiences are what will ensure we move with a sense of urgency that is lacking at all levels of government.
