Polling by GBA Strategies for Progressive Change Institute

Today, Elizabeth Warren made EXPANDING Social Security a 2020 presidential
campaign issue -- after working with the PCCC and allies since 2013 to
push this issue into the mainstream!

Warren made clear that many grandparents and veterans "rely on Social
Security for 90% or more of their income...today I’m announcing a plan to
provide the biggest and most progressive increase in Social Security
benefits in nearly half a century" paid for by asking the rich to pay
their fair share.

We've done the polling. Expanding Social Security is popular by 70% to 17%
-- including with a majority of Republicans, Independents, and Democrats.

asking the richest Americans to contribute their fair share to the
program. I urge every Democratic presidential candidate to campaign on
this issue."

Warren took on the political establishment in DC -- and Trump:

"Despite the data staring us in the face, Congress hasn’t increased Social
Security benefits in nearly fifty years. When [Republican] politicians
discuss the program, it’s mostly to debate about whether to cut benefits
by a lot or a little bit. After signing a $1.5 trillion tax giveaway that
primarily helped the rich and big corporations, Donald Trump twice
proposed cutting billions from Social Security."

We were proud to work with Social Security Works, Working Families Party,
Credo, Progressives United, MoveOn, Democracy for America, Presente, Color
Of Change, Ed Schultz, congressional progressives, and others in the early
days of this fight.

In 2018, many Democrats who flipped red seats blue called for expanding
Social Security!

campaign on it!

Do you like policy details? Here's more on Warren's plan:

* Increases Social Security benefits immediately by $200 a month --
$2,400 a year -- for every current and future Social Security
beneficiary in America.
* Adjusts benefits up for many lower-income families, women, people with
disabilities, public-sector workers, and people of color.
* Finances these changes and extends the solvency of Social Security by
nearly two decades by asking the top 2% of families to contribute
their fair share to the program.
* Immediately lifts an estimated 4.9 million seniors out of poverty,
cutting the senior poverty rate by 68%.
* Increases economic growth in the long term and reduces the deficit by
more than $1 trillion over the next ten years.

Thanks for being a bold progressive.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez told PCCC members, "The majority of Americans are with us on the policies. Americans support Medicare for All, expanding Social Security benefits, gun reform, debt-free college, and a $15 minimum wage. Bold progressive values are popular EVERYWHERE. Together, we have the people. Together, with your help, we’ll have the votes." Chip in $3 here: [link removed]
