On Tuesday, Russia started upgrading its S-400 and S-300 air defense systems. The upgraded systems are set to include new missile types as well as increase their range and accuracy.
Also on Tuesday, it was reported that Russia Oryol nuclear-powered submarine had hit a target using a Granit anti-ship cruise missile while submerged. The strike took place during the Barents Sea drills and came as the submarine practiced a series of anti-submarine warfare and mine countermeasure exercises.
On Wednesday, it was reported that Azerbaijan had destroyed missile launch sites in Armenia. That same day, it was reported by the Armenian Defense Ministry that the Artsakh Defense Army had shot down an Azerbaijani SU-25 attack jet.
On Thursday, Iranian state media reported that missiles fired by Armenia and Azerbaijan had landed in two villages in Iran's East Azerbaijan province. One civilian was injured and Iran issued a warning to the two countries, stating that Iran may involve itself in the conflict if missiles cross the border again.
On Saturday, the U.S. condemned Turkey for its Friday test of a Russian-built S-400 system. In its statement, the U.S. State Department argued that the launch went against Turkey's responsibilities as an ally to NATO and the U.S.
