We'll admit, when we first had the idea for Space Cats Fight Fascism, we had no idea it would become one of our best selling games. We thought it would be a great way to explore an important topic, but through a lens that left us uplifted and cheerful rather than depressed and downtrodden. For us, it was a bit of an experiment, and we had no idea if anyone would join us along for the ride.
Two years later, we have sold out of almost our entire stock of the first edition of the game, and we were hearing from people all over the country - and even world - about how they loved playing as space cats saving the galaxy from the rise of the autocratic regime known as the Rat Pack. We even saw people dress up for Halloween last year as space cat characters. (Not going to lie, that was probably one of the top coolest moments for us.) So we're delighted to share with you that we've created a second edition of the game, and it has some new awesome stuff.
But before we go too far - we also want to let you know that you can get the second edition for $10 off. It's already on a discount for $5 off, but because you're our community that made this game possible in the first place, we wanted to extend that even further for you. Just use the code COOLCATS at checkout, and you'll get that additional $5 off!
So without further ado, here’s what’s new in the second edition:
Bigger and more durable cards!
One of the biggest challenges for us throughout the years has been how balance our dedication to ethical and sustainable manufacturing with delivering affordable, quality games. This is a tricky balance, but we feel like we have done a good job with it. And at the same time, our goal is never to be complacent - and to keep innovating.
So, to make a long story short, we found a way to increase the size of the cards in the game and to make them more durable - while maintaining our commitment to ethical and sustainable manufacturing!
Wooden. Cat. Meeples.
One of the things that we're most excited to have upgraded in this edition are the player tokens. If you're nerds like us, we hope you'll be excited about this new feature too: players now move themselves around the board with high quality, super adorable wooden cat meeples:
New Art + New Character Power
With the second edition of the game, we wanted to add more art to the game as well as a whole new character power. The new art is featured across the Resist Cards as well as the Cat Character Cards.
And more!
We know, we know, this email is starting to get kind of long. We're just excited to share all this with you. So we'll finish it off in a moment, but in the mean time, here's a quick update of some of the additional updates in the new edition of Space Cats Fight Fascism:
Printed wooden materials. The Liberated and Occupied flags in the game have been turned into wooden discs, with printed images on them.
Some clarified rules. Anytime you publish a game and put it into the world, you find some things that trip some players up that you weren't expecting. That's why we keep a live FAQ for the game on our site. Still, we took this opportunity to clarify those rules in the rulebook itself. While the gameplay is still the same, we hope this can help parachute new players into the Space Cats universe!
Sturdy, pocket size box. Although all the components in the game are now bigger, the actual box itself is small and sturdy, meaning you can carry it around in your pocket. (Okay, maybe it'd have to be a pair of cargo pants to fit in your pocket, but the point is it's super easy to take on the go.)
Plus: We've got Space Cats Fight Fascism shirts!
By popular demand, we introduced two Space Cats Fight Fascism shirts - one of them based off of the new art in the game. Check them out below:
As always, thank you for being our wonderful supportive and enthusiastic community. We could never make these games and tools about changing the world (or galaxy) without you.
