Dick Heller Explains Why this is a Crucial Election for Gun Owners

The nomination of Amy Coney Barrett moves to the Senate Judiciary Committee for a vote this week.

As we have told you before, Barrett is a fantastic pick for the Supreme Court, and if Senate Republicans hold the line, we will have a new Justice who is in the mold of the late Antonin Scalia.

The anti-gun Left hates Barrett because she believes the Second Amendment protects an “individual right.” And they’re right … she does support the right to keep and bear arms.

But confirming Barrett and getting a pro-gun Court may only be temporary. It’s all going to depend on what happens in November.

If Biden ascends to the White House and Democrats take the Senate, they are already indicating they will move to pack the Supreme Court with at least four additional anti-gun loons.

But GOA is working to defeat every candidate who is pushing to pack the Supreme Court.

It’s no exaggeration to say that the Second Amendment is on the ballot, and so is the Supreme Court.

Standing up for the right to defend yourself and your family is constitutionally-protected. Period. End of Story. That is unless you ask someone on the anti-gun Left.

They feel like our freedom is not only up for debate but should not exist at all.

I know this all too well. My legacy is my battle in the courtroom.

D.C. v Heller is the landmark case that I was honored to be a part of. It gave me a chance to expose the corruption at the highest levels of the D.C. government. It proved that D.C. was forbidding law-abiding citizens the ability to protect and defend ourselves.

I was and still am just an average Joe. I carry a gun to protect myself, just like you.

What I learned through my journey to the Supreme Court was that you find out who your friends are when the deck is stacked against you.

Joe Biden is against us. And so is Senator Kamala Harris.

Harris even submitted an amicus brief in favor of the unconstitutional gun laws in D.C. -- arguing you have NO individual right to keep and bear arms.

Don’t let the media fool you. Senator Harris is not a moderate.

She wants to disarm you. Just like she was in favor of the D.C. government who had disarmed me.

The law in D.C. that Kamala Harris supported in her brief was extreme. I couldn’t even own a handgun in my own house for self-defense.

Harris has said that she is “open” to increasing the number of justices on the Supreme Court.

This would stack the court so far in the progressive, anti-gun liberal’s favor that it would be almost impossible for us to defend the Second Amendment.

Think about how many times we have had to fight to keep our right to protect and defend ourselves in the Court.

It is only a matter of time before another Second Amendment case reaches the Supreme Court.

I assure you; we do not want a Supreme Court picked or stacked by a Biden-Harris Administration.

Every time I sit back and think about my case, the question always arises: What would have happened if that ban was still in effect? What if we would have lost.

How many other states would have the same or similar bans on honest citizens? My guess is that we would have lost a lot of ground in regard to our gun rights.

Some of you who have been members of this organization since 2008 have stood with me, and by me, in the courts.

I sincerely can never thank you enough.

Those of you who are new to GOA. Here is my warning:

The anti-gun Left will continue to attack us in every way they can think of.

Even in the middle of this pandemic, they were doing their best to close ranges and gun stores -- sometimes even attempting to delay concealed carry permits.

We won those battles, and it continues to drive them crazy.

They are out for blood, and they just put one of the most anti-gun Leftists on the presidential ticket.

Now more than ever, we need strong Second Amendment voices in the White House and in Congress.

There is only one way to achieve this. You and I must go to the polls.

We must vote, and we must take an active role in politics because rest assured, the anti-gun Left is.

More and more, we see the anti-gun Left going to extremes. They are full of bad ideas aimed at one thing: taking away our personal freedom.

They are mobilizing their supporters and working on getting their policies on the books by any means necessary, whether we like it or not.

Let November 3rd be the day we send the anti-gun Left a message: that we will not stand idly by while they attempt to strip us of our constitutionally-protected rights.

I live in the bluest of blue areas. Washington D.C. is about as anti-gun as you can get. But let me be clear, the Left wins when we sit out of the fight.

I didn’t sit out the fight then, and I won’t now.

It is not every day that you get to restore and protect a piece of the Second Amendment, and that is the exact opportunity you have come Election Day.

When the decision of D.C. v Heller decision was announced, I was more nervous than I have ever been. That victory for me ensured that our constitutionally-protected right to defend myself would finally be protected.

For others, it was the recognition that it was safer for a little while longer.

Don’t let this be the year you throw in the towel. The stakes are too high. We need you.

Senator Kamala Harris didn’t get her way in 2008 when we won D.C. v Heller. Let’s make sure she doesn’t get her way in 2020.
