Hey John,

We set an incredibly ambitious goal this past weekend to help 10,000 volunteers call half a million voters in Super States. We're grateful for the 9,500 callers who stepped up, but we still fell short by 500 volunteers and 17,880 calls.

So this week, we have to make up the gap—if we don’t, voters in the Super States won’t get the information they need to vote.

Millions of voters need our help casting their ballots, and in these tight races, every vote could make the difference. Organizers from across the country have been working with campaigns to prioritize virtual phone banking events that need your help. John, the most impactful way you can plug in this week is by (virtually!) attending this DMV to PA Virtual Staging Location event. Can you join on 2020-10-24?

How do we know that this phone bank is “your most impactful event” out of thousands? It boils down to three things: how tight a race is, how much volunteer help the event organizers need (and can manage!), and how close you are to the event organizers. There’s more data science and math that goes into matching each of us to our events, but those are the basics.

The political calculus is pretty straightforward: the event you’re connected to is impacting one of the closest races in the country. We don’t want to drive calls into safely Democratic areas or staunch Republican races—just the tossups where we can move the needle.

Second, event management. This means: 1. That the events you’re going to need you. Without big in-person campaign events this year, it’s even harder for campaigns to recruit volunteers. Campaigns tell us over and over that while they're set with texting volunteers, they NEED phone bankers. If you don’t participate, these critical calls really won’t get made. 2. The group or campaign managing your event knows what they’re doing. That means they’ve checked in with Swing Left organizers, have their tech lined up, and have a backup plan if there are any hiccups, so you can make the most of your time.

Finally, our Action Finder tool, and Swing Left itself, was built to connect people to their closest high-impact actions. Even during the pandemic, we want to send you to events run by leaders in or near your community. It plugs you into a support system you can rely on for future events.
