Let’s be clear: when Dr. Fauci said “I can’t imagine that anybody could be doing more” about the coronavirus, he was NOT talking about Donald Trump -- he was referring to the coronavirus task force working round the clock to keep us safe.
Trump, on the other hand, has been the coronavirus’s best friend. He’s disregarding public health guidelines left and right. He’s been holding packed rallies and superspreader events at the White House. And instead of working hard to fix the current crisis, he’s been golfing, enjoying his unscheduled “executive time,” and rage-tweeting about rigged elections and conspiracy theories.
We can’t let our leading public health expert, who Trump has tried to muzzle for months, be used as a prop in Trump’s re-election. Dr. Fauci himself has tried to correct the record, but all he got in response was an attack from the president on Twitter.
We must stand with Dr. Fauci. We can’t just say we support science -- that’s what Trump claims, too. We need to elect candidates, from the White House on down, who will respect our experts and heed their advice on matters of vital public policy.
Right now, Trump is making Dr. Fauci’s life miserable. If you’re as grateful as we are for our top infectious disease expert, let’s reward him with a new boss in 2021.
Please, give now to ensure Dr. Fauci’s over fifty-year career in public service ends on a high note. Give now to punish Trump for ignoring our chief medical expert all the way up until he needed a re-election soundbyte. Give now to help us support candidates who’ll fight against the virus -- not give it room to spread.
Thank you for helping us wash our hands of Donald Trump. I like to think it’s exactly what the doctor would have ordered.
