ISRA Thursday Bulletin - September 12, 2019

Executive Directors Message

We have several court cases slowly moving through the courts. The Gun Dealer Licensing Certification case has been delayed because the original judge recused herself and a new judge has been appointed. We are waiting for our new hearing date, which may just be a preliminary hearing. In the Deerfield case, the judge combined our case with the GSL case which
gave Deerfield another chance to appeal. Had the case not been combined, Deerfield would have been done. The Vivian Brown FOID card case was heard by the Illinois Supreme Court on Tuesday. I do not know when we will hear anything. The White case will have a preliminary hearing on September 17, 2019. We will let you know when oral arguments are scheduled. The White case deals with the failure of the State of Illinois to issue an Illinois Concealed Carry License
to a person who has a FOID Card and no criminal record. The Wilson, et al., v. Cook County, et al., case will be appealed with the United States Supreme Court. We have a lot of cases going on at this time. The ISRA is fighting for you. If you are not a member, JOIN

We are beginning to see attacks on concealed carry here in Illinois and across the country. Some stores like Walgreens, Walmart, CVS and others are asking people to leave their carry guns at home. The problem is that if anything does happen in these stores, the first thing they do is lock down the store. So, there you are locked down with a potential killer and the only thing you have to
defend yourself with is a package of Twinkies, a bag of cotton balls or a can of cream of mushroom soup. Of course, the store isn’t liable. Walmart is working with Moms Demand Action to lobby Congress. Remember that when you go shopping for your firearms and ammunition.

Yesterday was a day of remembrance. We must never forget those who were lost on 9/11/2001 and in the conflicts that followed. We also need to remember those that have since lost their lives from health issues caused by these horrific terrorist attacks. It has been reported that thousands of first responders and people working and living in lower Manhattan near Ground Zero were exposed to toxic fumes and
particles emanating from the Towers as they burned and fell. By 2018, 10,000 people were diagnosed with 9/11-related cancer. I, like many others, will never forget that day or the days that followed. No American should ever forget that day. It was the Pearl Harbor of our lifetime. For those who are too young to remember, we must educate them about that fateful day in history. Time has not lessened our loss, even after 18 years.
