Remember when Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith suggested that the pandemic would “be over in a couple of weeks?" (You may recall that she said this just days after dismissing the response to coronavirus as “scare tactics.”)

Well, it’s now October 19. Exactly seven months have passed since the senator made that careless remark. SEVEN! And more than 219,000 Americans — including more than 3,100 Mississippians — have lost their lives to this virus. It’s an awful milestone that makes my heart feel so heavy. And the thing is, we wouldn’t be dealing with another spike right now if Senator Hyde-Smith had taken the pandemic seriously from the beginning.

So today, I have to ask: When is "in a couple of weeks," Senator?

Mississippi needs a real and decent leader to get out of this pandemic. As U.S. Senator for Mississippi, I will follow medical advice, and I will not be afraid to make hard decisions. Donate $10 now to help me win on November 3. [[link removed]]

Senator Hyde-Smith’s attitude is especially awful, now that we’re seeing an autumn surge all across the country. Cases are up here in Mississippi by 54%! Last Thursday’s daily new cases of 1,322 was the highest in daily total cases of COVID-19 since the August spike in our state. We know the curve isn’t flattening. It’s only getting worse.

But instead of doing what a senator should be doing right now — like working hard to provide relief to the people of Mississippi — our opponent is busy playing partisan games. All spring and summer long during this pandemic, Mississippi was one of the hardest-hit, with Black Mississippians disproportionately affected. And what did Senator Hyde-Smith do? Take off for vacation. She takes orders from Mitch McConnell and delayed coronavirus relief again and again!

We ought to be clear: Not only has Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith failed Mississippians, this pandemic is far from over. Medical professionals like Dr. Anthony Fauci are predicting a devastating winter. That’s why it’s crucial we give Mississippi the leadership it needs while we can on Election Day to get ourselves out of this mess.

Will you please make a contribution of any amount today to support my grassroots campaign and help send me to fight for better pandemic relief and recovery efforts in the Senate? We have just 15 days left to remove Hyde-Smith from office and give Mississippians the leader they deserve in Washington. [[link removed]]
