Trump won in 2016 because he ran a campaign like no one had ever run one before, including prioritizing Facebook in a way Hillary Clinton failed to do. And now, it looks like Joe Biden is making the same mistake.
The good news is that Biden is still ahead nationally -- and he has even begun to fight Trump in deep-red Republican strongholds like Georgia.
But we can’t be so distracted by hopes for a sweeping victory that we allow crucial swing states to slip through our fingers. The ads Trump is running on Facebook are really despicable -- some ads even include pictures of bottles labeled “Coronavirus Vaccine,” even though Trump’s administration has so far produced no such thing.
If Trump controls the narrative on social media, he’ll win the election. We need to push back by boosting the candidates and campaigns that are key to winning a progressive majority in our government -- but right now, we’re $3,256 short of our goal.
You know how much Facebook shapes people’s opinions. If we don’t answer Trump’s lies with the truth, we could be in for four more years of fake news.
