Calling all Democrats! Join us for a no-contact literature drop in support of all of our Democratic candidates up and down the ballot on the first weekend of early voting. We have blue ballots, Biden/Harris literature, and lit for the other candidates. Lit pickup will be outdoors, weather permitting. See details below.
Please be aware that the lit drop being promoted on Mobilize is not us, and in fact those folks have promised a lit drop every week for four consecutive weeks, and then cancelled. Please ignore those emails. (This does not apply to the phone banking and voter protection events on Mobilize. Those events appear to be real.)
Voter Protection Needs A Few Good Volunteers To Help Voters Cure Absentee Ballot Defects The Biden-Harris campaign is running the NC Voter Protection Program to make sure that every vote counts. Right now, volunteers with VoPro are contacting Democratic and Dem-friendly voters whose absentee ballots have been deemed defective in order to help them cure the defect so that their ballots can be counted. We currently have around 125 of those voters in New Hanover County, and there will be more in coming days as additional absentee ballots arrive. Many of these voters are disadvantaged and hard to reach by phone.
In order to make sure every vote is counted, NC Democrats are going to these voters' houses (socially distanced of course) in order to share with them their options for curing their defective absentee ballots. NC Voter Protection needs a few good volunteers. A typical canvass shift includes 10-12 voters and takes about 2 hours. The canvass will use an app named Minivan rather than paper lists, so you need to have a smartphone or iPad to participate and you will need to be comfortable with technology to make it work. There are virtual training sessions every evening; sign up here: https://www.mobilize.us/nc2020victory/event/348138/ For more information, email Ian Clarke at [email protected]. Biden/Harris Supporters Rally Weekly in Wilmington There was a party atmosphere Saturday afternoon as a mask-wearing crowd gathered at the corner of Military Cutoff and Eastwood roads to show their support for the Biden/Harris presidential ticket and other Democratic office seekers. The group has been gathering at the northeast corner of the intersection near Starbucks for the last several weeks. Rock music played through a loudspeaker as rally goers waved to passing motorists who honked in support. The Biden/Harris group easily outnumbered a gathering of Trump/Pence supporters at the opposite side of the intersection. The rallies were fueled by grassroots supporters who met in a Facebook group, New Hanover & Brunswick Women for Biden. Heather Cwiklinski said she noticed the mini-Trump rally a few weeks ago and decided she needed to respond. "I said there's got to be more people like me out there who are backing Biden," she said. Her first trip to the corner included her and a few friends, "then it just kept growing, " she said. The Biden/Harris rallies will continue each Saturday afternoon from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. for two more weeks leading up to the election. The Republicans across the street will probably also be there. Bringing 4,000 Film Jobs Back Is A Priority for State Senator Harper Peterson
Harper Peterson Jr. was elected to the 9th District seat in the North Carolina Senate in 2018 and is running for reelection. Harper grew up on a farm in Huntington, NY, sharing a modest home with his parents, five siblings, and grandparents. Upon graduating from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Harper volunteered as an English teacher in Thailand before moving to New Hanover County in the ‘70s. Harper is married, has five children, and two grandchildren and he and his wife Plunkett have been business partners in several local businesses for 35 years. Harper served on the Wilmington City Council from 1995-1999, as Wilmington Mayor from 2001-2003, and is a founding member of Cape Fear River Watch and Clean Cape Fear. Harper spent most of his life, as a citizen and an elected official, advocating for the environment, sustainable growth, and equal opportunity for all of our citizens. He is running for re-election to continue the fight for clean water and air, access to affordable healthcare, a well-funded public education system, and to bring the film industry back to Wilmington, with over 4,000 high-paying skilled jobs.
