** Budget 2021: funding increase welcome, more to be done on youth unemployment
------------------------------------------------------------
We will be sharing our full post-budget analysis with members, and well done again to all of those who successfully lobbied for an increase in the funding for youth work as part of the #YouthWorkChangesLives campaign!

Our initial reaction: We ‘warmly welcomed’ the additional €5 million in funding provided for youth services nationwide ([link removed]) and thanked Minister O'Gorman for his department's
recognition of the impact Covid-19 on young people’s lives, and the vital role youth services play in helping respond to and mitigate the worst of these.

However, we also expressed our disappointment with Government measures to address youth unemployment ([link removed]) .
With 36.5% youth unemployment, 55,000 young people under 25 on PUP and almost 29,000 on the live register, more needs to be done ([link removed]) .



** Invitation to tender: Exploring the prevalence and representation of conflict amongst minority ethnic young people
------------------------------------------------------------
NYCI is looking for suitably qualified researchers to conduct research on the prevalence and representation of conflict amonst minority ethnic young people in Co. Dublin over a 15-month period. Deadline for receipt of completed proposals is October 26. Learn more >> ([link removed])



** Skills Summary Share Your Story call-out
------------------------------------------------------------
We want to know how the young people you work with are engaging with Skills Summary on their personal journey. We want to capture how and why they've been using the tool, and how it makes a difference for them. Submissions can follow any theme and take any form, from poetry and essays to audio clips and video, and one entrant will win €100. Closes November 8. Find out more >> ([link removed])



** The 'Review of the Youth Work Sector Response to the COVID-19 Pandemic' has been launched
------------------------------------------------------------
This important new piece of research was published at the end of last month. It was launched by young people sharing their experiences as well as speakers including Dr Roderic O’Gorman TD, Minister for Children, Equality, Disability, Integration and Youth, and report authors Deborah Erwin and Lorraine Thompson. ** One World Week 2020 is on the horizon!

The theme of this year's One World Week (OWW) is power and youth. Understanding power in youth work is vital for the development of young people as they navigate their lives and society. This year One World Week takes place from November 23-29 and we'll be publishing a new resource to support you, as well as hosting not one but three (!) youth summits - watch this space.

Covid-19: updated guidance for youth services

We continue to work with the officials in the Department to revise the guidance in response to any new restrictions and will continue to update the Guidance for Youth Organisations on Resuming Full Services ([link removed]) .

We will also update the official DCEDIY/NYCI Covid Induction for Youth Services ([link removed]) to reflect any changes.

Grant opportunity: Irish Youth Foundation
------------------------------------------------------------

Vhi has partnered with the Irish Youth Foundation to establish a Health & Wellbeing Fund. The fund is open to organisations working in the following Cork, Dublin, Donegal, Limerick, Galway, and Kilkenny. It is focused on supporting young people, or the adults around them, who are experiencing anxiety and on helping them to build their resilience, and is open to organisations working with young people aged 12-25 years. ** 2020/2021 Girls' Brigade Ireland session has officially launched
------------------------------------------------------------
The Girls' Brigade Ireland officially launched its 2020-2021 session at its online AGM on October 2. As well as announcing a revamped programme suitable for running outdoors or online, they also welcomed a new national President and Vice President, and three new national board members. ** 'How's Your Head?': report and video launched
------------------------------------------------------------

‘How’s Your Head – Young Voices during COVID-19’ was a national consultation with 2,173 young people on mental health and wellbeing during Covid-19.

The launch event was hosted by Laura McGarrigle, Asst. Secretary General of the DCYA, and heard from youth advisory group members Deborah, Daniel, and Mair who presented the findings from the consultation and shared ideas for action in response. Minister for Children, Equality, Disability, Integration and Youth, Roderic O’Gorman TD, formally launched the report. Irish Girl Guides launch Space Badge
------------------------------------------------------------
Members of Irish Girl Guides were thrilled to have their new Space Badge launched by award-winning space communicator, Dr Niamh Shaw, and European Space Agency astrophysicist Dr Kate Isaak. Both are former Girl Guides. To earn the badge, girls from age 5 will undertake a range of space-themed activities, including stargazing, solar system walks, rocket-building, and making model moon bases. ** Enter Eco-Unesco's Young Environmentalist Awards 2021

A positive and engaging way for young people aged 10-18 to learn new skills and protect the environment, with plenty of supports and resources available. Submissions are due by February 26, 2021. Eco-Unesco's Youth Climate Justice Challenge
Eco-Unesco's goal is to engage, educate and empower young people to take action on climate justice. Through this challenge, they will raise awareness of climate justice through their own action projects and ECO challenges, and through dialogue with their community leaders and local policymakers. Eco-Unesco Youth for Sustainable Development programme

** Covid-19 small grant scheme for youth clubs and services

UCD mental health surveys

Your Youth Health Project - Mental Health during Covid-19 is a research collaboration by the UCD School of Psychology and the Children and Young People's Service Committee, funded by Health Ireland. It is investigating the impact of the pandemic on young people's mental health and wellbeing. ** Festival of Learning highlights Early Intervention and Prevention

A ‘Festival of Learning’ will take place from November 3-11 with a series of four online events about the role of government in prevention and early intervention. The festival is supported through What Works, an initiative designed by the Department of Children, Equality, Disability, Integration and Youth (formerly DCYA). The event will include international panel contributors who will use real life experience and examples from Irish and international contexts to generate practical learning and takeaways. Free STEAM & Sound Production Programme

As part of Science Gallery Dublin's PLASTIC exhibition, youth workers can avail of a free STEAM and sound production programme that comes ready to use in your youth work or education project. You are invited, with your youth group, to take part in the co-creation of a sound installation that will be exhibited in the Regional Cultural Centre in Letterkenny from the end of this week until December.
