A federal appeals court just blocked Donald Trump’s latest attempts to hide his tax returns after The New York Times uncovered that the self-professed billionaire “had paid no income taxes at all in 10 of the previous 15 years -- largely because he reported losing much more than he made.”
Trump paid just $750 in federal income taxes the year he was elected -- and yet he’s now brazenly using the U.S. Treasury as his own personal bank account to fund his reelection campaign. Trump has found countless ways to expand the bounds of his executive power. He has played campaign videos in the White House briefing room, promised to give more federal funds to voters in swing states, and most recently, blocked millions of food aid boxes from going out unless they contained a letter from him.
We will need an overwhelming turnout to end Trump’s growing threat to our democracy -- and things are looking good. The Atlantic has reported that recent trends indicate 2020 election turnout will shatter records, and Democrats around the country have already started voting.
But while Joe Biden’s campaign has been ramping up its fundraising initiatives, NBC News has reminded us that Biden is “facing a president who's happy to use tax dollars to win [his] re-election” -- allowing Trump more than $6 trillion to turn out voters and spread his baseless claims of electoral mail-in voting fraud. Trump has already recruited thousands of volunteers to “go into polls and watch very carefully” -- and right now, we are falling short of our fundraising goals to get Democrats to the polls.
