Ballots are hitting mailboxes, and as you fill yours out, I'm asking for your vote for my dear friend Massene Mboup for Lake Oswego City Council.

There are more reasons to vote for Massene than I can count (which makes writing this email both difficult and delightful!), but I think I can boil it down to three main categories:

Values and vision. Massene has dedicated his life to education, and will always put our children and schools first. He's also been a leader during our city's important Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) work, pushing our conversation forward while making sure there's room for all voices in the conversation.

Commitment. Massene is one of the hardest-working people I know. He and his wife, Patricia, founded a French immersion school, the International Leadership Academy, in 2011. Under his leadership, the school has grown steadily, and now serves over 100 students. He also serves on the city's DEI Task Force and the LO school board's budget committee. And coaches soccer. And in June, he got his PhD in education from PSU.

Massene believes in Lake Oswego. Born and raised in Senegal, Massene moved to Lake Oswego in 2011 after a decade in Portland. "I fell in love with Lake Oswego for its dedication to children and education, its beautiful parks, and strong sense of community and civic engagement," he says. At a time when Lake Oswego is wrestling with its history of systemic racism, Massene will lead our community in confronting that history while building a better future for all our kids.

In short: Massene Mboup is a pillar of our community.

He has the experience, the compassion, the wisdom, and the will to lead Lake Oswego as we continue to grow and prosper. I'm honored to call him a friend and colleague, and endorse him wholeheartedly for City Council.
