New for this Constitution Day, the Classroom Edition is a cutting-edge, multimedia digital platform that builds on the Interactive Constitution, providing trusted, nonpartisan constitutional resources for middle and high school students.

The Classroom Edition includes:
  • educational videos
  • podcasts
  • constitutional lesson plans
  • essential questions to help facilitate civil dialogue in the classroom
  • the Drafting Table, which allows users to explore early drafts of constitutional text
  • Classroom Exchanges, which pairs classrooms from different parts of the country for conversations about high-profile constitutional issues
all organized by amendment, clause, and article.

Visit the Classroom Edition to download the First Amendment Plan of Study, which includes lesson plans, videos, essential questions, and more that cover all of the clauses of the First Amendment. Used as a two-week deep dive into the amendment, or as individual lessons to incorporate into your curriculum, the plan of study is a great way to bring the Constitution into your classroom!

Is your class ready for a Classroom Exchange? Here is how you can find a class, engage in dialogue, and deepen constitutional knowledge.

Register your class to discuss a relevant constitutional question with another classroom somewhere else in the United States. The National Constitution Center facilitates these civil dialogues by providing instructional materials, pairing classrooms, connecting them with an expert moderator, and setting up videoconferencing sessions.

Registration is quick and easy! Interested teachers can sign up for the platform by entering an email address, school name, and state to start planning for Exchanges throughout the school year. The platform allows you to update classroom availability and other preferences throughout the year.
Email [email protected] with any questions you may have before signing up.

Prepare your students for a future Exchange by chatting live with our staff of constitutional experts! All day long our team will be available to answer all of your questions on the Constitution, new initiatives from the Center, exciting events happening on site, and more! Join the chat September 17 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. EDT.
