At this month's VP debate, Kamala Harris alerted the American people to the extent of Trump’s racism when she reminded us that: “Of the 50 people who President Trump appointed to the Court of Appeals [over the course of his presidency], not one is Black.”
The situation is clear: Trump has been packing the federal government with people who look and think just like him. Unless he takes action soon, he’ll become the first president since Nixon to go a full term without choosing a Black nominee for any court vacancy.
We shouldn’t be surprised -- this behavior is coming from someone who calls racial sensitivity training “racist” and whose vice president denies the existence of implicit bias in policing.
Unlike the president, ASPIRE is committed to increasing representation for voices of color. We’re supporting Asian American and Pacific Islander candidates and allies of the AAPI community’s interests so that the diversity of our government reflects the diversity of the people it serves. AAPI voters and their allies in battleground states now have the potential to fight back against GOP toxicity at the polls -- and give Joe Biden and Kamala Harris a landslide victory in November.
But Trump and his cronies know that our side is gaining traction. That’s why they’re escalating their voter suppression tactics to despicable new heights, attacking the USPS, and enlisting an army of 50,000 “poll watchers” to intimidate voters of color and keep them from exercising their most basic democratic right.
ASPIRE is working around the clock to mobilize Democrats so that the GOP’s efforts fail miserably -- but we’re running short on funds. We need to raise another $4,233 before midnight if we want to continue supporting the campaigns that will reach AAPI voters and the candidates who will fight for them.
You know that Trump’s unabashed racism is dividing this country. You know that the only way to get us on the right track is to elect diverse, progressive leadership -- to Congress and to the White House. And you know we’ll need a broad coalition, one that includes every single AAPI voter, to get there. You know we need your help, and we need it now.
