John,

Just when you thought mayoral candidate Todd Gloria’s campaign couldn’t be any more cynical or dishonest, he has stooped to a new low.

In a blast email yesterday soliciting campaign contributions, Gloria made the following outrageous claim concerning a $200,000 personal contribution Barbara made to her own campaign:

“My opponent thinks she can buy this election for herself.
But the thing is, small donations from folks like you can do more for this race than a big check like that – your donations show that San Diego is behind me.”
- Todd Gloria

And what are the “small donations from folks like you” Gloria is referring to?

Backers of Gloria’s campaign – nearly all special interests seeking to buy favor with him – have funneled over $2 million through a variety of dark-money PACS and the Democratic Party to promote his election and to attack Barbara in a series of dishonest and deceptive mailers and television commercials.

In an effort to keep her campaign competitive in the face of this record-breaking avalanche of special interest money, Barbara has contributed her personal savings, most recently $200,000, to her campaign.

With a shamelessness that would make George Orwell cringe, Gloria is suggesting that it’s better to sell out to every major special interest in the city than it is to spend your own hard-earned money to support your campaign.

And which interests is it Gloria has sold himself to? The most active dark money PAC supporting Gloria is financed by $250,000 from the Municipal Employees Association, the largest city workers’ union; $120,000 from short-term rental companies; and $100,000 from the Chamber of Commerce, to name just a few – a total of over $1.2 million from just one of several Gloria-backed PACs.

What can you do to help?

Make an individual contribution [[link removed]] -- $10, $100 or a maximum allowable contribution of $1,150 -- to Barbara’s campaign before the deadline tonight at 12 midnight.

Make an Individual Contribution Today [[link removed]]

Tell Gloria and the special interests that are financing him that you reject pay-to-play politics at City Hall and want a mayor who represents the neighborhoods of our city, not the special interests.

Go Barbara!
