A federal appeals court just blocked Donald Trump’s latest attempt to build his long-promised border wall -- this time by stealing $3.6 billion in military funds.
The court’s decision just exposed another instance of Trump dipping into the federal budget to keep his 2016 campaign promise with November just weeks away. But the Ninth Circuit ruling is only a temporary obstacle to his brazen effort to preserve power -- and Trump’s made it clear he will go to any length, including declaring a fake national emergency, to stay in the White House.
The courts won’t save us. We will need an overwhelming turnout to end Trump’s growing threat to our democracy -- and so far things are looking good. The Atlantic has reported that recent trends indicate 2020 election turnout will shatter records, and Democrats around the country have already started voting.
But while Joe Biden’s campaign has been ramping up its fundraising initiatives, NBC News has reminded us that Biden is “facing a president who's happy to use tax dollars to win [his] re-election.” As president, Trump could access up to $6 trillion to turn out voters and spread his baseless claims of electoral mail-in voting fraud. Trump has already recruited thousands of volunteers to “go into polls and watch very carefully.” Right now, we are falling very short of our fundraising goals to get Democrats to the polls.
