The Scalise Capitol Report

Demanding Answers from Big Tech

Big Tech companies such as Twitter and Facebook have continuously engaged in politically motivated decisions to selectively suppress free speech online.

I am calling on Congress to hold an emergency hearing on Big Tech’s election interference and censorship of news. They must not be able to get away with censoring free speech or selectively censoring what information Americans are allowed to see online. It’s time for Big Tech to immediately answer questions about their commitment to free speech and free and fair elections.

Military Academy Nominations

The honor of attending a service academy comes with the obligation and commitment to serve in the military for a minimum of five years upon graduation. I have the opportunity to nominate up to ten individuals for each vacant academy slot allotted to our district.

Members of Congress may nominate candidates for appointment to four of the five U.S. service academies: U.S. Military Academy (USMA), the U.S. Naval Academy (USNA), the U.S. Air Force Academy (USAFA), and the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy (USMMA). The fifth service academy, the U.S. Coast Guard Academy (USCGA), does not require a congressional nomination for appointment.

If you or someone you know is interested in seeking a Military Academy Nomination, please visit my website for more information and Frequently Asked Questions. The deadline to turn in an application is November 2nd, 2020.

Telemedicine and Remote Learning Assistance

The Trump Administration announced over $5 million in Distance Learning and Telemedicine grant funding throughout Louisiana. Online learning and telemedicine appointments have become more common since the COVID-19 pandemic broke out, and this announcement will help expand needed telemedicine and remote learning services throughout the First Congressional District. I applaud the Trump Administration for awarding this important funding that will increase access to health care services and educational opportunities for families throughout Southeast Louisiana.
