United We Stand

By Richard Harris on Sep 11, 2019 01:42 pm

On the evening of September 11, 2001, President George W. Bush addressed the nation and said,

“A great people has been moved to defend a great nation. Terrorist attacks can shake the foundations of our biggest buildings, but they cannot touch the foundation of America. These acts shatter steel, but they cannot dent the steel of American resolve. America was targeted for attack because we’re the brightest beacon for freedom and opportunity in the world. And no one will keep that light from shining. Today, our nation saw evil — the very worst of human nature — and we responded with the best of America.”

George W. Bush

Rudy Giuliani, the Mayor of New York at the time, said,

“The attacks of September 11th were intended to break our spirit. Instead, we have emerged stronger and more unified. We feel renewed devotion to the principles of political, economic and religious freedom, the rule of law and respect for human life. We are more determined than ever to live our lives in freedom.”

Differences Aside

When America was attacked on 9/11 the people of this great nation rallied together and were unified. We set aside our differences and supported the cause of freedom.

The iconic photo of three firemen raising the American flag appeared on the cover of magazines everywhere.

Our flag stood as the symbol of solidarity, strength and enduring freedom.

Sadly, among some influential circles within our country, the unity and love of country that followed 9/11 has given way to deep division, and even to Anti-American hatred. While millions of Americans still remain proud of their country and honor its great legacy as a beacon of freedom and faith in God, a powerful alliance has emerged that is aggressively proclaiming a diametrically opposite mindset.

“What A Disgusting Country!”

On September 7, 2019, Presidential Candidate Beto O’Rouke said

“What a disgusting country this is. This is a country that has been defined by foundational, systemic, endemic racism since the very founding… The violence, the persecution, the droughts caused not by God, nor by Mother Nature, but by you and me, our excesses, our inaction…”

Increasingly, it seems that many Americans are being persuaded to hate their country.

  • Professors teach that Christopher Columbus was a terrorist who committed genocide.
  • Protestors deface statues and takedown paintings of Founding Fathers.
  • Members of Congress call our immigration officers Nazis and liken detention centers to concentration camps.
  • Sports figures kneel during the National Anthem and city and state governments provide “sanctuary” to illegal aliens and refuse to cooperate with national authorities.

A Study Of Patriotism

A survey done by YouGov found that:

  • Half of those surveyed believe the United States is sexist (50%) and racist (49%)
  • American exceptionalism is on the decline. 46% of younger Americans do not agree that “America is the greatest country in the world”
  • 38% of younger Americans do not agree that “America has a history that we should be proud of”
  • One in eight (14%) of Millennials agree that “America was never a great country and it never will be”
  • 46% of younger Americans agree that “America is more racist than other countries”
  • 84% of Americans do not know the specific rights enumerated in the First Amendment
  • 19% of Millennials believe that the American flag is “a sign of intolerance and hatred”
  • 44% of younger Americans believe Barack Obama had a “bigger impact” on America than George Washington

Instead of the steely resolve to fight the Islamic Jihad that threatens us, the views of many in this nation seem to have aligned with the jihadis.

Osama bin-Laden, the leader of Al-Qaeda responsible for the attacks said,

“Every Muslim the minute he can start differentiating, carries hate towards Americans, Jews, and Christians, this is part of our ideology. Ever since I can recall, I felt at war with the Americans and had feelings of animosity and hate towards them.”

Our Prayer

Our prayer and quest at the Truth and Liberty Coalition is that Americans will re-discover and embrace the Truth, including the great Christian heritage of this Nation.

We have not been perfect – God knows.

But, there has never been a nation in the history of the word that has done more to create and spread freedom, equality, and prosperity around the world.

From the bold, audacious pronouncement in the Declaration of Independence that all men are created equal and endowed by their Creator with unalienable rights, to the sacrifice and stalwart opposition to Communism that won victory in the Cold War, America has been the beacon of freedom and equality to the world.

On this date in 2017,

Donald Trump, standing near the site of the 9/11 attack at the Pentagon, said these words:

Here on the west side of the Pentagon, terrorists tried to break our resolve. It’s not going to happen. But where they left a mark with fire and rubble, Americans defiantly raised the stars and stripes –- our beautiful flag that for more than two centuries has graced our ships, flown in our skies, and led our brave heroes to victory after victory in battle. The flag that binds us all together as Americans who cherish our values and protect our way of life. The flag that reminds us today of who we are, what we stand for, and why we fight.

Woven into that beautiful flag is the story of our resolve. We have overcome every challenge — every single challenge, every one of them — we’ve triumphed over every evil, and remained united as one nation under God. America does not bend. We do not waver. And we will never, ever yield.

So here at this memorial, with hearts both sad and determined, we honor every hero who keeps us safe and free, and we pledge to work together, to fight together, and to overcome together every enemy and obstacle that’s ever in our path.

Our values will endure. Our people will thrive. Our nation will prevail. And the memory of our loved ones will never, ever die.

Thank you. May God bless you. May God forever bless the great United States of America.

Donald Trump

Now, more than ever, the principles of the Declaration and our Bill of Rights are under assault.  Now, however, it seems that the forces that are fighting against freedom are coming from within.

Let’s Remember

Today, on this anniversary of 9/11, let’s remember:

  • The first responders who sacrificed their lives to rescue others.
  • Let’s remember the servicemen and women who gave all and those who continue serving overseas and at home.
  • And, let’s remember the love we had for our fellow American.

But, as much as these things, let us bring to remembrance who we really are as a nation. The land of the free and the home of the brave. One nation under God.

Let’s rise up on this day and reject the views of Beto O’Rouke and Osama bin-Laden. Let’s unite around the flag and the Constitution, and let us rehearse the Biblical truths to which we have been called and which are the foundation of the great blessings we have enjoyed.

The Democratic Party introduced a bill on March 13 popularly known as the “Equality” Act (H.R.5). The title of the bill sounds non-threatening. So, why should anyone be against equality?

The “Equality” Act would make possible a nationwide floodgate of government-sanctioned, religious discrimination against Christians and other people of faith by redefining the word “sex.” The bill would expand the definition of the word “sex” in the Civil Rights Act of 1964 to include “gender identity” and “sexual orientation” as legally protected classes.

Take action now by urging your U.S. representative to vote “no” on the Equality Act.

Religious Freedom Restoration Act

The “Equality” Act bans the use of the Religious Freedom Restoration Act (RFRA), as a legal defense from the government violating a person’s religious liberty. RFRA is a law that was passed in 1993 that placed stringent restrictions on government religious discrimination.

By government edict, business owners, employees, and customers alike will be subject to a radical liberal agenda while facing a guaranteed federal prosecution:

  • Business owners serving the public will be forced to open their restrooms and/or dressing rooms to men, who believe they are female, into the women’s restrooms and dressing rooms. The more commonly accepted restrooms based on fact become an area based on the feeling of identity.
  • Health care providers and professionals would be forced to perform gender transition procedures (sex changes) and provide medical services (hormone therapy) that would violate their moral and religious convictions.
  • Amusement parks, recreation centers, skating rinks, and daycare centers, etc. will be forced to employ people whose values on sexuality deviates from those of the employer.
  • Adoption and foster care agencies will be forced to place children into same-sex households and into homes of individuals suffering from gender confusion.
  • College and professional sports stadiums would be required to open its restrooms to either sex.

Sexual Liberty Vs. Religious Liberty

The Democratic Party’s platform states, “We support a progressive vision of religious freedom that respects pluralism and rejects the misuse of religion to discriminate.”

The “progressive vision” of religious liberty for Democrats was recently made visible by Chai Feldblum, the former commissioner of the Obama administration’s Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC). Feldblum clearly staked out the “progressive vision” of the Democratic Party when she said:

“I’m having a hard time coming up with any case in which religious liberty should win…Sexual liberty should win in most casesThere can be a conflict between religious liberty and sexual liberty, but in almost all cases the sexual liberty should win because that’s the only way that the dignity of gay people can be affirmed in any realistic manner” (emphasis added).

Chai Feldblum

As you can see, they’ve made progress advancing their vision by getting H.R.5, the “Equality” Act this far.  We need to stop it, and you can help by going here to sign the petition.

Separation Of Church & State

In the 20th Century, it became politically mainstream that religious convictions on issues were not allowed in any area of government.  This idea took root with the unconstitutional ruling by the U.S. Supreme Court in Everson v. Board of Education(1947).

This decision misinterpreted the Constitution as well as Thomas Jefferson’s statement on a wall of separation between church and state. The high court erred in judgment when they said the “First Amendment has erected a wall between church and state. That wall must be kept high and impregnable. We could not approve the slightest breach.”

Jefferson’s original intent was for a “wall of separation” to restrict the government from interfering with religious liberty, NOT to restrict Christians’ involvement in government, as decided in Everson v. Board of Education.

The wall of separation is to protect individual Christians from the government– NOT to protect the government from Christians.

According to Jefferson, Christians could freely exercise their influence beyond the wall into the public realm at their discretion.  Had Jefferson intended a strict restriction of religion from government he would not have allowed and taken part in Christian worship at the U.S. Capitol.

In addition, he asked the rhetorical question, “And can the liberties of a nation be thought secure if we have lost the only firm basis, a conviction in the minds of the people that these liberties are the gift of God?  That they are not to be violated but with His wrath?”  Jefferson believed that if anyone could violate one’s religious liberty, it could only be God.

The gospel message did not originate from man, but from God. No government or law will ever supersede the inerrant and authoritative word of God. Jesus said, “Then render to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s; and to God the things that are God’s” (Matt. 22:21). The gospel and His bride belong to him—not the government. Christians’ allegiance is first and foremost to God.

Christians have given up much ground on religious liberty because they have remained silent. Let us be bold and courageous and reverse the trend of stepping away from our God-appointed, prophetic role of speaking on moral issues because we live in a world who increasingly calls evil good and good evil (Isaiah 5:20). But above all, proclaim the gospel of Christ (Acts 2:14-41).
