Friend,
The Supreme Court is an incredibly powerful institution. It can change our country overnight.
It can bring progress to America with rulings like Brown v. Board of Education, which banned racial discrimination, and Obergefell v. Hodges, which legalized gay marriage.
But it can also make devastating decisions that harm all Americans — decisions like Citizens United, which allowed virtually limitless political spending by dark money interests, and Korematsu v. United States, which let the federal government imprison people just for their ethnic background. People like my friend George Takei.
Simply put, a bad decision could cost lives.
With the Affordable Care Act, a woman’s right to choose, and LGBTQ rights all on the line, we need Justices who treat all people with dignity and respect. Amy Coney Barrett is not that Justice.
When it comes to protecting the rights of all people, we’ve got a tough fight ahead of us. I’m going to need all the resources I can get. Will you chip in to help my campaign?
I fight for the common good every single day, and I recognize that our progress could be lost if we don’t stand up and defend our values. If the Republicans get their conservative supermajority on the Supreme Court, then Congress will be the last safeguard.
I’m asking for your support now because we can’t afford to lose later. What we do today counts.
Please contribute to my re-election so I can keep fighting for all of us.
Thank you,
Mark Takano
