Did you sign with a middle initial or maiden name? Do you remember how your signature looks like on record?

The number question we get is about the signature but is it accurate?

"I don't know if I signed with my middle initial or not."
"My grandfather has really shaky handwriting. Will his vote count?"

Fear not. The Ballot Cure Act that we wrote and was passed into law takes care of any signature issues. For this and all future elections, NJ voters will be contacted within 24 hours if there's a signature discrepancy, be mailed a Cure Letter and Cure Form to fix it, and have ample time. For this year's election, that's up to November 18th!

The concern and anxiety on Signature Mismatch is really misplaced. Why? As you can see above, it was only the 4th highest reason for why ballots are rejected. In the last 11 statewide elections (2015- 2020 Primary Election) it was only 11-13%. The TOP reason for rejection? Ballots Received After Polls Closed. Over 26% (or twice as many) of rejected ballots were because the ballots were too late to count.

The focus should be on the #1 reason that ballots get rejected: ballots coming in too late. One in four ballots are rejected this way. So, the talk should be:

1) VOTE
2) MAIL, DROP, or DELIVER your vote NOW

Please go through the photos to take a look and see a sample of the Cure Form, the Standards and Guidelines, and the original legislative draft language that covers it! To view larger versions, simply click on the images below to enlarge.

By the way, before this legislation, there were no statewide uniform guidelines covering signature mismatch and NJ voters's mail-in ballots were rejected and there was nothing they could do about it either.

Take a look at the original bill draft that I wrote (first image) to require uniform standards and guidelines, covering signature matching issues.
