A few months ago, we announced that Justice Democrats would be putting the majority of our focus on electing Democrats to form a progressive majority in Congress. That’s because the issue with our politics isn’t just Trump — the entire Republican Party has become morally bankrupt:

There are a lot of powerful progressive campaigns focusing on the top of the ballot — people we trust to get the job done. But the reality is that our democracy requires fundamental change. Even if we elect a progressive leader as our President, no matter what, down-ballot Republicans and corporate Democrats will sabotage their agenda.

That’s why we’re working with progressive leaders running for Congress across the country — providing them with vital resources, information, community outreach, and so much more. Will you donate $3 to help support that work and ensure we elect progressives at all levels of government?

Without a progressive majority in Congress, every single one of our progressive priorities is under threat from both sides. Republicans will inherently oppose Medicare for All, a $15 minimum wage, a Green New Deal, and an end to the system of mass incarceration and deportation.

But corporate Democrats who take millions from Aetna, Walmart, and Exxonmobil can do considerable damage, too. Universal health care will get watered down so that people still have to beg insurance companies to provide them basic services. A Green New Deal will just become a carbon tax that will make people feel better, but will do nothing to reverse this climate crisis.

That’s why we need a Congress full of progressive champions who refuse all corporate PAC money, who have lived the struggles of working-class communities, and who will return our campaign finance system back to the people.

But we’re up against powerful special interests on both sides of the spectrum. Will you donate $3 to help us defeat Republicans who will cheat to win AND corporate Democrats who will undermine our progressive ideals?

We all have a part to play in taking back our democracy. And it’s vitally important that organizations like Justice Democrats are getting into the weeds and fighting tooth and nail for control of Congress, not just focusing on knocking Trump out of office.

Trump is undermining our nation on a daily basis. But if you’ve been paying attention, you know that Trump is a symptom of the problem — not the cause. And if we only get rid of Trump without getting rid of the institutions and power brokers that made his rise possible, then we still won’t achieve the progressive change Americans from coast to coast support.
