Friend,

During Judge Amy Coney Barrett's Supreme Court confirmation hearing in the Senate this week, I shared with her some powerful stories from powerful voices – the voices of real people who make clear the real-life implications of this nomination on issues like healthcare, reproductive freedom, and gun violence prevention.

I shared Conner's story, who was diagnosed at five years old with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, a degenerative, life-threatening disease with no cure – which is considered a preexisting condition. Conner is one of the millions of Americans whose healthcare is at risk. His parents are absolutely terrified of what will happen to his healthcare if the Supreme Court strikes down the Affordable Care Act.

I shared Natalie's story, who was 10 when her 7-year-old brother, Daniel, was killed at Sandy Hook Elementary School. Twenty innocent children and six heroic adults lost their lives that tragic morning. For Natalie and so many others across this country, extremist interpretations of the 2nd Amendment impact real lives and cause real, devastating loss. But with a 6-3 conservative majority, the Supreme Court would be poised to block the commonsense laws that could prevent these tragedies.

So many of my constituents came forward to share what's at stake with this utterly illegitimate Supreme Court nomination. Now, I want to make sure I get the chance to hear from you. Will you take just a minute to share your thoughts about the stakes of Judge Barrett's nomination to the Supreme Court?

I want to share one more vital thing that is at stake with this nomination: the most consequential election of our lifetimes. Donald Trump made it clear that he is putting Judge Barrett on the court so she can decide November's election. And Judge Barrett – who knows that any Justice on the Supreme Court can independently choose to acknowledge an appearance of conflict – has repeatedly refused to answer my question about recusing herself from ruling in any case dealing with the outcome of that election.

It's evident that there simply could not be more on the line in this confirmation fight – for the American people, for the integrity of the Supreme Court, or for the very future of our democracy. We must never let up in speaking out or fighting against this confirmation – not even a little. It would be a dagger at the heart of the court and our democracy if this election is decided by the court rather than the American voters.

In the midst of a process where the American people are being denied their voice, I want to make sure yours is heard. So please, click here to share your thoughts on the future of the Supreme Court and the GOP's despicable sham confirmation process.

Thank you so much,

Dick
