Did you see The New York Times or The Washington Post this past week?

The Trump administration met yesterday about a potentially drastic and un-American cut to the number of refugees allowed to enter the U.S. next year. What they decide is of major concern to our teams here at the IRC because of the many refugee families who’ll be left stranded.

Whether they decide to set the number at 30,000 like last year or slash the number down to 15,000 or less, it will be much too low and cause insurmountable harm. Anything less than our historic average of 95,000 refugee admissions that we’ve set over the years is unacceptable.

Currently 30,000 refugees have already completed their Department of Homeland Security interviews and are waiting to find safety inside America’s borders. We can’t turn our back on them now. Donate now to support the IRC’s work with refugees>

The president’s actions to undermine the resettlement program are not grounded in any concrete rationale: it has neither economic, security, nor systemic rationale to justify it.

Refugee resettlement is a lifeline and is indicative of exactly what is right and good about America. We are a nation and a culture that has, for centuries, welcomed those who yearn for – and work toward peace, safety and a better life for themselves and their families. The U.S. must not abandon that legacy now.

Help us support refugee families currently in the U.S. and those who may be left in some of the toughest places on earth. We’ve been supporting refugees for more than 85 years, and we will continue our lifesaving work with you by our side—no matter what decision is made.

Sustain our work and support refugees at this critical time. Donate now>

Sincerely,

Hans Van de Weerd
