John,

Today, I want to take a moment with you to talk about an issue that for me, is personal -- and likely is for you, too.

See, my mother was a lifelong nurse. She selflessly cared for her patients (total strangers) as well as her children -- making sure my brothers and I had enough to eat, even when our family was struggling. That's who my mom was, someone who always put the needs of others before herself.

But my mother's life was cut short when she couldn't afford the insulin that she needed to stay healthy -- to stay alive. She was just 67 years old.

This story is not unique to my family. It is disturbingly common throughout our nation -- where 28 million people in America have no health insurance. These 28 million people are just one illness or accident away from financial ruin.

That's why when I'm in Congress, I will fight to protect Medicaid and Medicare, control the skyrocketing costs of prescription drugs, and work to expand access to affordable health care. But I can't get there without your support -- will you chip in $5 or more today to help see us through this election?

It's abhorrent that during the COVD-19 pandemic -- the most severe health crisis this country has faced in decades -- Donald Trump and his cronies are actively working to dismantle the Affordable Care Act, which currently insures over 23 million people.

This is unacceptable. Right now, more than ever, we need to ensure that every American has access to affordable health care, protect those with pre-existing conditions, and reduce the sky-high prescription costs which are bankrupting and killing working families.

My opponent, Trump loyalist Mike Garcia, won't stand up to protect Californians' access to health care through the ACA and has no plan to solve this health care crisis. In fact, his website doesn't mention health care a single time.

If we are going to solve the dual crises of affordable health care and the deadly COVID-19 pandemic ravaging our country, we need leaders who actually have a plan. Who will listen to science, look at the facts, and advocate for the needs of the American people.

Could you contribute $5 -- or any amount that is comfortable for you today -- to help send me to Congress where I will do just that?

My mother spent her whole life working for the wellbeing of others, caring for the needs of strangers, and providing for her family. She still couldn't afford to stay alive.

Our political leaders in Washington could learn a thing or two from my mom's story, and those of millions of Americans just like her, who get up and do the honest work that they need to every day.

Thank you for your support. I hope you and your loved ones are safe and well.

-- Christy
