1. How much federal funding does your state receive every year?

All state governments receive funding from the federal government, which is usually in the form of grants. In fiscal year 2018, the average percentage of total revenues that states received in federal aid was 32.5%—or about one-third of their overall revenues.  

2. Presidents lose an average of 81 same-party members of the U.S. House during their first term

Presidents from Lyndon Johnson (D) through Donald Trump (R) took office with an average of 241 members of the same political party serving in the U.S. House. An average of 81 same-party members—just about one-third—did not run for re-election at the time of the next presidential election.  

3. 95% of U.S. House elections feature candidates from both major parties

Ballotpedia's annual study of competitiveness in congressional races finds that 95.4% of U.S. House elections this year—415 of 435—feature candidates from both major parties. This is the highest rate of contested races since at least 1920.
