Hi, it’s House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.

I’m reaching out about not only holding our House Democratic Majority, but taking back the Senate this November. We can do that by electing my friend and colleague Mike Espy to the Senate in Mississippi. [[link removed]]

Mike and I served together in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1987 until 1993. Together, we served our freshman terms in the 100th Congress alongside our heroic colleague, John Lewis.

Until that year, there were so few women and Black representatives — only 24 women, and 20 Black Members in the entire Congress.

But the 100th Congress was special. It had more women and people of color than ever before. And in Mississippi, Mike made history as the first Black congressman elected since Reconstruction, later going on to become the first Black U.S. Secretary of Agriculture.

I’ve worked with Mike before, and I know he’ll make a great Senator for the people of Mississippi. And now, we have an unprecedented opportunity to help Mike Espy make history again by sending him to the U.S. Senate, where he’ll be a voice for ALL Mississippians.

I don’t need to tell you that much has changed since that historic 100th Congress. The House has proudly passed legislation to restore the Voting Rights Act , lower the costs of prescription drugs, and so much more. But bills have gone on to die in Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell’s legislative graveyard.

The only way we’ll make progress for Mississippians and the American people is by taking back the Senate gavel from McConnell and electing leaders who are willing to listen to and fight for the people — and in Mississippi, that leader is Mike Espy.

We’re in the home stretch of this race, and I know Mike is counting on grassroots donations to keep his TV ads on the air and power his Get Out the Vote program across the state in these last 18 days.
