This is the phrase Judge Amy Coney Barrett used when discussing her views on marriage equality during her confirmation hearings this week. A phrase our community knows all too well — a dog whistle used by anti-LGBTQ opponents to stigmatize us.

But it isn’t just what Judge Barrett said this week that caused alarm, it’s what she refused to say that brings us even greater worry:

She refused to admit racial discrimination in voting exists.
She refused to affirm climate change is real and caused by humans.
She refused to say if, in her opinion, landmark LGBTQ rights cases Obergefell v. Hodges or Lawrence v. Texas were correctly decided.
If Judge Barrett is confirmed to the Supreme Court, facts are at risk.
