Dear John,

Unfortunately, we are continuing to see a rise in the number of Covid-19 infections across Scotland, the UK, and Europe. This winter will be very challenging for us all. Governments have very tough decisions to make balancing the suppression of coronavirus versus the economic hit and the mental and physical toll of further restrictions.

In the meantime, it is important that we all follow local restrictions. You can find them here ([link removed]) for the Scottish Borders.

Lots of you signed a UK Parliament e-petition on the distress of having your pet stolen. So much so, the Borders topped the rankings across the UK for having the most signatures. When an e-petition reaches a certain number of signatures it is then considered for a debate in Parliament. This issue is clearly very important to the Borders, so I intend to speak in this debate on Monday.

I recently met with the US Ambassador, Woody Johnson, to discuss the damaging tariffs placed on cashmere goods made right here in the Scottish Borders. These tariffs, which come from a trade war between the USA and the EU, hurt our local economy and cost jobs so it is vital that they are removed. Find out more ** here. ([link removed])

There are new 20mph restrictions coming in across the Scottish Borders. The rollout has already started in some places such as Newcastleton and Coldingham, so your local community has maybe already seen the change. If not, you can find out more details ** here. ([link removed])
