Hi John,

If you have taken our October survey, I want you to know how thankful I am for your open and honest input. Running a campaign without in-person events has proven to be challenging. Before the pandemic, I found the most meaningful part of running to be hearing directly from people who came to our events or opened their doors for a conversation with me and my team.

Surveys with essay-style responses have been one of the many ways we've found to check in with our supporters. It means so much to me that hundreds of you take the time to share your thoughts, worries, and hopes.

We heard from hundreds of people -- young, old, well-off, those who rely on assistance, immigrants, LGBTQ+, African American, Asian American, and more -- and it's a show of the wide support for our campaign to elect a leader who will make data-driven decisions based on fact and reality. For the next 18 days, we're working hard to bring even more people on board.

At the top of the survey, I wanted to check in on the top priorities in the district, and I cannot say I'm surprised by the results, because I feel the urgency surrounding these issues, too. Many people said they were most concerned about the pandemic response and economic relief, quality and affordable health care, and climate change.

Additionally, I'd like to share some responses to our open-ended questions that really stood out to me and my team. You can find those thoughts below:

"As President Trump gets experimental drug treatments and Chris Christie checks himself into the hospital "just in case" while thousands of Americans cannot even afford insulin, let alone state-of-the-art treatments for a novel virus, the disparity of Americans' access to healthcare could not be more pronounced than in this moment. It is shameful that in the richest country in the world, 80 million Americans are underinsured or uninsured. It is unconscionable that healthcare companies are able to make millions in profits while so many Americans die because they are too poor to access health insurance."

"My father, a Korean War Veteran, died of Covid 19 in May. [...] Tonight, President Trump said not to let Covid dominate your life. Well, it dominated my father's life, it dominated my mother's life. We need to get rid of people like Zeldin who have no empathy for other people."

"LGBTQ rights stay a top priority for me, as a gay man. The potential appointment of a supreme court justice so opposed to my identity and ideals frightens me. We must move forward, not back."

"I'd like to see a country where access to fair and affordable housing, health, education, nutrition, and financial security for all are the top priorities for our leaders. Not just lip service or an attempt to further a political career, but the result of our leaders truly listening and then looking inward and providing change for everyone."

"Long Island is an island. Manhattan is an island. We are an archipelago in southeastern New York State. The state of Maine does a better job of mapping and engaging in the realities of sea level rise. Let us 'rise' to meet them. New York has enough imagination to meet reality. We need the science and political will. So, Nancy, there you are. All science and sense."

If you missed our survey the last time around, there is still time to add your thoughts. You can add your voice here.
Thank you again for sharing so much with me. >> [link removed]

With deep appreciation,

Nancy

P.S. Thank you so much to everyone who pitched in to help us close the gap on last night’s fundraising goal. We came within $50 of our goal -- and Shane and I are checking that off as a campaign victory for the day. If you were someone who gave, thank you again.
