We?re about to enter our first weekend under High Alert restrictions and need everyone to abide by them if we are to bring the numbers of Covid infections down in our city. This means there should be no mixing indoors with anyone outside your household or social bubble, along with observing Hands, Face, Space and the Rule of Six. Nottingham businesses: Join us in calling for more Government support for you
Nottingham City Council is backing businesses in the city, calling urgently for more financial support from the Government as tougher coronavirus restrictions are placed on it.
In my letter this week to the Chancellor I made it very clear that the new High Alert restrictions will have a significant impact on local businesses in the hospitality and leisure sectors which face a further drop of in trade at a crucial time when many are already fighting for survival.
Many businesses in the city, and those who provide employment for Nottingham residents, have faced challenge upon challenge and are now at breaking point. We are urging the Government to bring forward a bespoke business support package to protect jobs in High Alert areas like Nottingham. A full support package would clearly also need to accompany any move into the Very High category.
We need the Government to support this city, to back our local businesses and their staff, and so I call on our city?s business community to add their voice and support in sending this message to Government. If you need to travel by tram, please follow these rules
With Nottinghamshire now classed as a High Risk area, it is more important than ever that we all work together to help control the spread of the virus. Tramlink who run our tram network have some clear guidance in place they are asking people to follow. The overarching advice is to try reduce the number of journeys you are making, if necessary walking or cycling or avoiding busy times and routes on public transport where possible.
As we approach the weekend, anyone using the trams is asked to:
- Wear a mask - a legal requirement unless you are exempt
- During peak times, when it may be harder to maintain social distancing on board, you could always look to use other forms of public transport
- Try to avoid using trams around the 10pm curfew if you can
- If you see that the tram is busy, please wait for the next one.

Nottingham is home to the world?s very first electric bin lorries!
It?s great to have some positive news away from Covid and it?s fantastic that Nottingham has taken delivery of the world?s first electric bin lorry this week. Ever at the forefront of green initiatives as we continue towards becoming carbon neutral by 2028, the City Council has bought two of the world?s first fully electric, zero emission refuse collection vehicles - the first one arriving yesterday and the second arriving soon.
They will replace diesel equivalents and it is estimated that they will save the taxpayer ?32,000 per year in running costs and reduce carbon dioxide emissions in the city by 52 tonnes per year - the equivalent of 2,000 trees. They join our award-winning, innovative fleet of vehicles - 30 per cent of which are fully electric, including the first fully electric sweepers, cage tippers and minibuses to be run by a local authority in the UK.
