Public transport needs support – tell the Chancellor why
Hello
I hope this email finds you well. I'm writing to you about something very important today: the future of public transport.
The effect of Covid-19 on public transport has been seismic. Rail journeys are at their lowest since the mid-nineteenth century, and bus use is teetering at just over half of pre-lockdown levels.
But we also know that buses, trams and trains will have a vital role to play in a green recovery and a fair, healthy, sustainable future. They will be essential to cutting carbon emissions and air pollution, and making sure that everyone can access opportunities and lead full lives.
Public transport needs support more than ever before, to protect and renew it for the future.
Later this autumn the Government will publish its spending review, setting out its spending plans for the coming months and years. We're writing to the Chancellor about the importance of supporting public transport, as well as walking and cycling, and we'd like to include lots of comments from people who use and care about transport – people like you.
