Advancing Equity in Maternal Mental Health: Strategies for State Medicaid Programs [[link removed]]
The United States is finally reckoning with internal and external anger toward systems that promote and allow racial inequities to persist, even foment. One of the many sectors within our health care system rife with deeply rooted issues is maternal and child health. Our nation’s maternal mortality rate has steadily increased over the past few decades; hidden in the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) aggregate data are enormous racial disparities, especially among Black and Native American women. A new report by Dr. Kimá Taylor and Isha Weerasinghe, Advancing Equity in Maternal Mental Health: Strategies for State Medicaid Programs [[link removed]] , offers guidance to state Medicaid offices on the steps needed to advance equity in maternal health, particularly for people of color. We recommend key agency strategies and offer effective state and federal models.
