I have never seen, in my lifetime, a more hateful presidential campaign than the one we are experiencing now. Speaking as a historian, there was a lot of hate when John Adams ran against Thomas Jefferson. And when Abraham Lincoln ran for President while the Confederacy was fighting the Union.
