Friend, our elections should be decided by voters like you and me…
Not by politicians intent on suppressing the vote...
Not by partisan operatives spreading misinformation to confuse and deceive us...
And certainly not by President Trump’s relentless efforts to intimidate voters and delegitimize our elections.
As I write this, Common Cause is mounting a historic, nationwide effort to make sure every voter can cast their ballot -- whether that’s by secure mail-in voting, or safely in person.
We’re mobilizing thousands of trained, nonpartisan volunteers across the country. Their mission? To help ALL voters and STOP voter suppression.
We’ve had to reshape our program to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic and new obstacles voters face. Our in-person volunteers are safely observing polling places while following public health guidelines -- while thousands more volunteer from home to rapid-response text voters the information they need or monitor social media for online disinformation.
Quite frankly, we’ve had to dig deep into our reserves to train and mobilize the rush of volunteers who are stepping forward to help -- but how many additional poll monitors we can field on Election Day is up to you. I know we can count on you to step up at this critical moment.
Friend, I’ve seen firsthand what a difference just one additional Election Protection volunteer can make. Each individual poll monitor we train and place will help literally thousands of voters so they can cast their ballots without confusion, obstruction, or intimidation.
And, this direct, voter-to-voter support is even more critical in this absolutely unprecedented election -- with disruptive last-minute changes to respond to and millions of first-time mail voters to accommodate.
But with hundreds of thousands of polling places across the country, if we don’t get an immediate infusion of resources, we’ll need to start making some tough calls about where to place our limited number of volunteers. We’re closely tracking traditional and social media so we can prioritize the places voters will need our help most -- but hitting all our top targets means we’ll need to train at least 1,000 additional volunteers in the next week.
We’re counting on Common Cause members like you to step up. You can cover a single volunteer’s costs for the materials, training, and transportation they’ll need for just $50.
Friend, I really need your immediate support to ensure an unprecedented Election Protection Mobilization to match this unprecedented election.
Your support will give our poll monitors the resources and training they need to make sure that every eligible voter has a voice. Will you make an urgent, tax-deductible contribution today?
I hope you will pitch in what you can today. Thank you for your support, and for all you are doing for our democracy.
Thanks for all you do,
Marilyn Carpinteyro, Vice President of Programs and Strategy
