Hello,
The Supreme Court has ruled that the census count can be cut short, clearing the way for the Trump administration to disenfranchise thousands of Americans for the next decade.
Justice Sonia Sotomayor was the sole public dissenter, writing: “The harms caused by rushing this year’s census count are irreparable. And respondents will suffer their lasting impact for at least the next 10 years.”
The GOP and Trump administration are arguing that with 99% of U.S. residents counted, those who remain are negligible. But Justice Sotomayor is setting the record straight and exposing their nefarious rationale: “Even a fraction of a percent of the Nation’s 140 million households amounts to thousands of people left uncounted. And significantly, the percentage of nonresponses is likely much higher among marginalized populations and in hard-to-count areas, such as rural and tribal lands.”
Listen -- this is just another example of Republicans hurting our country’s most vulnerable populations in the name of political gain. Our leaders in the courts are exposing this plot, and the least we can do is add our voices to the fray. Please let us know whether you stand with Sotomayor by telling us:
Should the census count be extended?
Thank you for providing your critical input -- it makes all the difference.
