Hi
John
-- We've got news to share!
UFE planted many seeds this summer. We are continuing to develop leaders and
build movements across the country with our popular education program
and virtual workshops. We recognized the need to infuse more healing
justice practices into our organizing work during this time, and are
providing spaces for reflection, connection, and healing to deal with
the traumas of a racist and broken economic system. And we're
supporting the development of new living wage certification programs
in North Carolina, while promoting livable wages as a matter of
conscience in communities nationwide.
We don't want to get back to
business as usual; we’re working together - while remaining physically
distant - to redefine usual. Learn more about our
recent and ongoing work below! As always, if
you'd like to connect with us, don't hesitate to reach out.
Knowledge Has No
Boundaries
[Leer

to share their reflections, stories and questions online. But the core
practice of popular education - to start with the personal and connect
it to the systemic - remains an effective tool for transformation.

Continued Support for
Leaders
Helping previous participants to go out in the world and hold their
own spaces and trainings is a core part of our “training the trainers”
strategy. This work has a multiplying effect as new facilitators are
introduced to the ideas of popular education and skills to facilitate
deep conversations about inequality in their communities. For example,
Eroc, our cultural organizer, spent much of the summer holding healing
circles with previous participants affected by the virus and the
uprisings...

Solutions for Education
Inequality
Over the summer, we had the pleasure of having Brandeis University
student Jermeelah Martin on the team as an intern. Reflecting on her
earlier experiences as a student in Chicago, she wrote this powerful
blog on education inequality...
"Imagine this scene: books are being thrown up in the air,
classrooms are humid, students are yelling, and teachers are too
frustrated to teach. This was the scene of my 8th grade class... But
my school days had not always been this way. A few years prior, class
sizes were small, there were enough books, students enjoyed the fruits
of learning, while teachers enjoyed teaching..."
Take the "One for Democracy"
Pledge
Extreme wealth inequality and racism continue to put our democracy
at risk. UFE and our Responsible Wealth project have joined One for
Democracy, which is asking wealthy people to pledge to move their
resources to groups organizing for democracy before the election next
month. Can you give 1%? Watch this video by two of our staff members,
Sara Sargent and Mike Lapham, to learn more!
Recent Webinars - Watch the
Recordings
Have you attended a UFE webinar yet? UFE's Sara Sargent recently
coordinated two informative webinars (the
war on workers and voter
suppression) with economic justice and labor educator Mark
McDermott. And last month UFE's NC Training Network Coordinator, David
Dixon, discussed the importance of living wages for all in a webinar
for Wake County, NC. Most recently, our popular educator and cultural
organizer, Eroc Arroyo-Montano, co-facilitated a webinar
on healing practices and lessons for movement leaders and activists
called, “Personal and Collective Healing for Liberation.” Watch the
recordings and learn more about our upcoming events at the links
above!

p.s. We are a national, independent, nonprofit organization that
challenges the concentration of wealth and power that corrupts
democracy, deepens the racial divide, and tears communities apart.
